May 10, 2010
We love books – and with ArtWeek’10 upon us, we’re going to recommend lots of fun activities that surround the next two weeks of festivities. Books are one of them. So this week, we’re talking about the structures that house books – libraries.
Don’t you love your local library? We sure do. They plan all sorts of neat activities and knowing you can get pretty much any book your heart desires is a nice feeling. But how do those beautiful and massive structures get built?
That’s the topic of a lecture tomorrow night as part of the Art of Architecture series. The lecture is called “Architectural Design for Public Spaces: CALS, A Case Study” and will feature Bobby Roberts, director of the Central Arkansas Library System.
Roberts will talk about how a library goes about working with architects to create beautiful and meaningful spaces. Have you wondered how the Arkansas Studies Institute came into being – and how that space was transformed and created? Or the Main Little Rock Library – with it’s beautiful listing of authors around the top of the building? What about the Cox Creative Center? What’s up with that triangle?
Well, find out tomorrow night – and get the inside scoop on all the cool spaces that make up a public library system.
