Hit a Home Run

Hit a Home Run
May 5, 2010

It’s only the beginning of May, but already this month is being booked with events galore.  ArtWeek ’10 begins and there are many festivals and other events to fill our days.  Before we know it, Memorial Day will be here and then…Summer!

So before we get too wrapped up with ArtWeek, we wanted to tell you about the Jim Elder Good Sport Fund and the final Home Plate Heroes event.  It happens in a couple of weeks – May 20 – at Dickey Stephens Park.  This is always a fun and casual event that raises money for several worthy non-profits around the state, including the THEA Foundation, Centers for Youth & Families, and the Miracle League.

This is the third and final year for this event.  So you don’t want to miss it.  And the big draw are the home plates.  Artists have transformed home plates into beautiful works of art – and they are available to the highest bidder!  Artists participating include Spencer Jansen, Theresa Cates, Jason Gammel, Susan Elder and Beth Wooley.  There are also several baseball themed ones done by high school students that will knock your socks off.

We encourage you to buy the $25 ticket to attend.  It’s one of the best values in town.  But if your schedule gets packed like ours, sometimes that’s just not possible.  So get online.  The bidding starts today!  And if you want to see these beautiful works of art in person – head over to the THEA Foundation – where they are all on display until May 19.

Let’s celebrate the good work that the Jim Elder Good Sport Fund does in our community by bidding on these unique works of art.  When good people do good things – it really does make life a little better for all of us.
