Foods that Sustain
April 1, 2010

Happy April Fool’s Day!  Have you played a joke on anyone yet?  Well, it’s no joke that the weather outside is gorgeous and that spring is definitely in the air.  That means that soon all the farmers will be back with gusto at the Certified Arkansas Farmer’s Market in Argenta and food will take on a whole new meaning.

And April also means that Earth Day is approaching. So this month, we’ll be featuring as many “green” products and events as we can. And if you know of something – let us know!

This being the day we like to talk about food, we thought we’d start the month out telling you about the Sustainable Foods Cooking Class coming to Eggshells Kitchen Co. on April 15. This class is taught by Sharon New-Bauckman, who is a food and health educator from Annapolis, MD.

This class will teach many components of the sustainable foods movement, including learning about the health benefits of grass-fed meat and yogurt, why fat is heart healthy, and buying and eating local. You’ll get to make butter (we LOVE to make butter!) and a nutrient-dense chicken broth, whey and ketchup. The local food networks and local food producers will also be at the class, so not only can you get all the facts, but you’ll actually be able to incorporate them into your daily life easily.
