Have you started your Spring Break yet? Our ministaffers have to wait an extra day due to those snow days a few months ago. But whether you start today or tomorrow, spring is definitely in the air! Be sure to check out our calendar so you don’t miss a thing – and if we’ve missed your event – post it! We want to know all about what’s happening around here.
Smell Something? If you are anywhere near the river this weekend, you’ll probably get a whiff of some delicious smells. That’s because it’s time for Smoke on the Water! This year, North Little Rock hosts the U.S.A. Bar-be-que Championship with $100,000 guaranteed prize. That’s some good bar-be-que! Bring the whole family, because there will be non-stop entertainment, carnival games and rides, and even hot air balloon rides. Come see what everyone is talking about. North Little Rock Riverside RV Park. Friday, gates open at 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, gates open at noon. Admission: $5 (kids 10 and under free). Visit www.smokeonthewaterbbq.com for more information.
Hear Something? Today, the Historic Arkansas Museum plays host to a neat event. First, folk singers Sara Grey and Kieron Means will conduct a small workshop from 3:30 – 5:30 at the museum. Limited to only 25 attendees, reservations are a must. Then, tonight these two talented folk singers will give a concert in the museum’s Ottenheimer Theater. We can’t think of a nicer way to start the weekend. Workshop tickets $15 (includes concert); Concert tickets $8. Call (501) 324-9351 for reservations.
See Something? What are those reptiles and amphibians that roam around Arkansas? Did you know they are called herps? Bring the kids and learn even more interesting facts about these common creatures of Arkansas at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center on Saturday. The event is free for kids 6 and older. 2:00 p.m. Call (501) 907-0636 for more information.
