Stomp It Up!

What a fun time we had last night. After a long day, we headed over to Robinson Center Music Hall for the opening performance of STOMP.
We must say, we came with no expectations. Having never seen the show before we knew little about it. So many times, that’s just the way we like it. Robinson was packed. And as the lights went down, it was obvious there were some real fans in the house, as the applause and “whoops” began before the show did!
The first number was filled with push brooms swishing and tapping their way into a song. But we must warn you, some of the brooms are harmed in the making of this great music. In fact, we loved it when a broom would break in the middle of all of the movement. We loved it because of the art it created in the handling of the moment. It was as if each break was choreographed, the transition to a new broom was so elegantly handled.
The show has no intermission – which we loved. And each number was followed by another equally impressive one. The actors made music from sinks with water suspended from their necks; from rubber tubing; from newspaper; and of course from trash cans. But it was more than just banging around on stage. There was humor and interaction and storytelling – all without saying a word.
And the final number was breathtaking – with it’s combination of sounds and theatrics. The audience was definitely involved with the show, and it was hard to stay in one’s seat. The show is only here through Thursday night, so if you haven’t bought your tickets, we would highly recommend you do so quickly! It’s a high energy and fun filled night that the whole family will talk about long after the lights go down.
