Weekend Happenings

The snow didn’t come today – thank goodness! Although we have some ministaffers that were pretty disappointed, we were happy for a respite from the snow. It leaves us mobile to have some fun this weekend! There are lots of fun things going on around town, so be sure to check out our calendar so you don’t miss a thing – and if we’ve missed your event – post it! We want to know all about what’s happening around here.
Get Romantic. The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will tickle your fancy this Valentine’s Day weekend with “The Heart of Broadway.” This compilation of romantic songs from some of your favorite Broadway hits is the perfect way to spend some quality Valentine time together. From the classics to the mega-hits – and everything in between – this is a not-to-be-missed show this weekend! Friday and Saturday, 8:00 p.m. Robinson Center Music Hall. Call (501) 666-1761 for tickets.
Be a Chocoholic. It’s okay – chocolate is good for you! And this weekend, it’s twice as good! Attend the Chocolate Fantasy Ball and you’ll get as much chocolate as your heart desires – plus you’ll be helping raise money for the Ronald McDonald House! Begin your evening with a chocolate themed cocktail reception – featuring Godiva chocolate martinis – oh my! Then enjoy dinner, dancing and a stellar live auction. Your Valentine will thank you for this black-tie chocolate extravaganza! Saturday, 6:00 p.m. Peabody Hotel. $200 per person. Call (501) 374-3318 for tickets.
Buy a Book. Browse the aisles at Barnes and Noble on Sunday and find a good book to whisk you away! Then tell the person at the checkout that you’re there for Dreamland Ballroom. 10 percent of all sales on Sunday go to helping Friends of Dreamland Ballroom raise money to restore the historic Dreamland Ballroom in Toborian Hall at 800 W. 9th Street. And even better – the Friends of Dreamland Ballroom will be at Barnes & Noble from 1 – 5 to show their plans, talk about the restoration, and share the excitement. So you may shop for yourself, but you’re still helping others! Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. Barnes & Noble, Chenal Parkway.
