Weekend Happenings

January 29, 2010

Snow Day!  You might not want to venture to far from home today, as the roads are only going to get worse.   But the rest of the weekend promises to improve.  There continue to be lots of fun things going on around town, so be sure to check out our calendar so you don’t miss a thing – and if we’ve missed your event – post it!  We want to know all about what’s happening around here.

Double Check.  Today there were scheduled some pretty fun things.  But weather sometimes gets in the way – and that’s what’s happened with our Friday night!  We were planning to attend the member reception for the Delta Show at the Arkansas Arts Center.  But the Arts Center is closed today – and that means no Delta Show and no Little Women performance tonight.  So just be sure you check before you venture out – and stay safe.

Enjoy our Youth.  We’ve got some pretty talented kids around here.  And thankfully we have some great arts organizations to help them unleash that talent.  Saturday night is one of those great times that everyone can enjoy the fruits of their labor.  The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform together in a special concert that always delights and amazes.  Join them for Side-by-Side.  Saturday, 7:00 pm, Robinson Center Music Hall.  Call (501) 666-1761 for tickets.

Celebrate a New Month. This is the last weekend in January.  Monday brings a new month – and a special performance.  The American Spiritual Ensemble will have a special performance at Philander Smith College that is free and open to the public.  Enjoy classical spirituals and Broadway hits from this much loved group of talented singers.  And what a special treat…this group is the subject of an upcoming PBS documentary about the history of spiritual music!  Monday, 7:00 pm, Philander Smith College, M.L. Harris Auditorium.  Free.
