It’s an artsy kind of weekend around here!  There are musical opportunities and art openings galore. Be sure to check out our calendar so you don’t miss a thing – and if we’ve missed your event – post it!  We want to know all about what’s happening around here.

Night of Art.  If you’re hankering for a bit of art – then never fear – Friday is here!  And tonight there are art openings on both sides of the river.  Stop by Cantrell Gallery for their opening of “Stop the Presses!”  featuring the art of the staff of the Democrat-Gazette.  Then, mosey on over to the Argenta  Arts District in downtown North Little Rock for their Third Friday Artwalk.  Greg Thompson Fine Art has a new show, “Mark Blaney: Short Stories of the Sublime”  that features the work of Mark Blaney, an artist who has been featured in the Delta Show at the Arkansas Arts Center on numerous occasions, even winning the coveted Delta Award.  Friday.  Beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Day of Music.  Love opera?  Then you know that singing at The Metropolitan Opera is the highest honor one can receive.  Join 24 talented singers as they start their journey to do just that.  This weekend is the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions.  Winners from Saturday’s competition move to the regional competition on their quest for stardom.  Enjoy a day of music, or just pop in for a song or two.  Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, UALR.  Reception at 3:00 p.m.  FREE.

Night of Music. Continue your artistic weekend with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.  This weekend, world renowned pianist Valentina Lisitsa will dazzle and delight you with the romantic and lyric Grieg’s Romantic Piano Concerto.  Snuggle up to a loved one and enjoy a truly beautiful concert.  Aren’t we lucky?  Saturday, 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 3:00 p.m. Robinson Center Music Hall.  Call (501) 666-1761 for tickets.
