Hot In Little Rock

Even though we really love the holiday season, with its anticipation and decorations, this time of year is pretty good, too!  The art scene in Central Arkansas really seems to take a break for the holidays…but now is when things start picking up again, and we’re thrilled.  The upcoming months will hold lots of exciting opportunities for art lovers of all kinds, and we’ll be here to tell you about them!

This weekend is busy, too.  There are new exhibits opening all over.  But the one we want to tell you about today is at Cantrell Gallery.  “Stop the Presses!” opens on Friday night and features the work of (can you guess?) the staff of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette!  It’s a great title for the show.  And it’s also a great chance to meet some of the people behind the names you read every day.

The staff at the Democrat-Gazette are all creative – they have to be.  Writers and editors and such.  But, like us, when you do that every day, you still need another creative outlet.  Here are some very talented folks who are also talented artists.  There will be photography, painting, ceramic, mixed-media, and more.

Familiar names will have their work on display.  Names like John Deering – who is a very talented artist and who works in many different media – from works on canvas to sculptures.  Philip Martin will also display is digitally manipulated photography and Celia Storey will have her pottery on display.

Yes, this promises to be a wonderful show, full of art by some already pretty creative people.  And if you join them on Friday for their opening reception, you’ll even have the chance to greet the artists in person.  This is one show we can’t wait to see.
