Be Prepared

Be Prepared
January 11, 2010

Can you believe we’re in the full swing of another semester already?  And those kids of ours who are in high school are already looking for what to do next.  There are colleges to visit and applications to write.  And of course, there’s the ACT.

We hated standardized tests.  We still do.  We can write all day long, but give us bubbles to fill out – well, that’s another story.  But there are classes to help your kids successfully fly through these standardized tests that become the basis for so many things – including scholarships.  And one we recently learned about makes us wish it had been around twenty years ago.

Pulaski County Youth Services offers a free – yes free – ACT Prep Program.  That sounds a lot better than the $400 some of them charge, doesn’t it?  And the only stipulations are that you need to live in Pulaski County, be in grades 10-12 and apply by February 1.

They will offer Saturday classes beginning on February 27 at UALR and Pulaski Technical College.  They’ll even supply the workbooks and materials necessary.  And – get this – the cost of the ACT test itself?  Paid for by PCYS if your child meets the attendance requirements of the class.

Wow.  That tells us that Pulaski County is committed to seeing our students succeed in their higher education.  Who wouldn’t want to sign up for this class?  It seems like a win-win situation for everyone!
