Weekend Happenings

January 1, 2010

The sun is out…but baby, it’s cold outside!  Good thing there are lots of fun activities to be had this weekend in the warmth of the indoors. Be sure to check out our calendar so you don’t miss a thing – and if we’ve missed your event – post it!  We want to know all about what’s happening around here.

Art.  It’s the second Friday of the month.  And you know what that means, right?  It’s time for 2nd Friday Art Night in downtown Little Rock!  Be sure to stop by the Historic Arkansas Museum for the opening of their latest exhibit, Viewfinding: Photography by Brian Cormack.  This selection of photographs features Arkansas Waterfalls, landscapes, and cityscapes at night by  this talented North Little Rock artist.  Friday, 5-8 pm.  Visit www.historicarkansas.org.

Sports.  Time to take the whole family out to D1 Sports Training Facility on Saturday for a Family Fun Day!  Tackle, throw and weave in their 60 foot indoor football field.  Learn something in their training stations.  But most of all, have fun!  Parents, individuals with special needs and neurotypical children of all ages are welcome.  Sponsored by D1 Sports Training Facility and Autism Speaks.  Saturday 1-3 pm  10 Viewpoint Cove.  Call (501) 951-0115 to RSVP and for more information.  Free.

Music.  Here’s a special treat.  On Sunday, head on over to Wildwood Park for the Arts for an exclusive showing of “The Audition.”  This fascinating film takes you on the final journey of hopeful performers as they audition for the Metropolitan Opera.  This viewing benefits the Arkansas District Met Auditions and donations are encouraged for this free event.  Wine and snacks will be available for purchase.  Sunday, 3pm.  Wildwood Park for the Arts.
