Dizzy with Delight

November 12, 2009

Several readers have contacted us about the opening of Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro.  So many, in fact, that we had to go check them out for ourselves.  Dizzy’s is located in the restaurant space vacated by Vermilion Grill.  We are thrilled that another restaurant filled that space.

It’s been a beautiful week.  And the nights have been absolutely perfect.  So when we walked into Dizzy’s – the outside patio was the only place to go!  But on any other night, we would have loved to sit inside.  It is completely redecorated with fun colors, glass and artwork.  The owner, Darla Huie, told us that most of the artwork came from Birch Tree Communities, an organization they support heavily.

We opened up our menu, and immediately noticed that everything appeared to come in large portions.  We love cheese dip, so we ordered some of that right away.  We almost keeled over when it was brought to the table.  We have never seen a bigger bowl of cheese dip!  It was delicious – and we had to force ourselves to stop.

For dinner, we ordered a cheese ravioli with a truffle cream sauce.  It had onion and sundried tomatoes mixed in as well.  It was wonderful.  But again – they don’t skimp on the portions!  The truffle oil combined with the creaminess of the bechamel sauce was a wonderful combination of flavors.  And for dessert – we couldn’t pass up the wedding cake.  It was moist, full of flavor, and probably better than our own wedding cake!

Dizzy’s operated out of Benton for almost 14 years before deciding to move to Little Rock.  It is casual fun for the whole family.  They have an extensive kids menu and a decent wine list.  The surroundings are comfortable and inviting.  And the comfort food they serve is welcoming.

But be forewarned – you are guaranteed not to leave hungry!  And you just may be taking a doggie bag home with you when you leave.
