What’s on Tap?

What’s on Tap?

October 14, 2009

What’s on Tap for this week?  Art on Tap, of course!  This is a great event put on by the Contemporaries of the Arkansas Arts Center each year.  Contemporaries is a wonderful group of young professionals who get together periodically throughout the year to enjoy and learn more about good art.

Each year they throw a party called Art on Tap.  It usually centers around the big exhibit at the Arts Center at that time – and this year it centers around World of the Pharaohs: Secrets of Egypt Revealed.

There will be lots of imported and craft ales and lagers to quench your thirst.  And they are all paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres to quell that hunger in your belly.  But the best part of this party is that you’ll be able to wander at your leisure through the Art Center’s wonderful exhibit World of the Pharaohs.

Even if you’ve been through it before, you need to go again.  There’s just something about seeing it at night and with a group of friends.  Have fun comparing and contrasting your everyday life to that of the average Egyptian three thousand years ago.  Are there any similarities?

Yes, the Art Center has done a wonderful job putting together this huge exhibit of Egyptian artifacts from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  And it’s not about royal life, either.  No, this exhibit really does focus on what life was like for the average Egyptian.  It gives us an unusual sneak-peak into their lives.

We are fascinated with Egypt.  We always have been.  The society that thrived three to six thousand years ago wasn’t that different from our society.  We enjoy fantasizing about what our life would have been like had we been born in a different time and a different place.

And Friday night is a great time to share those fantasies with your friends over a glass of beer.  Yes, Art on Tap is always fun.  And it’s a great excuse to get to the Arts Center and see World of the Pharaohs again.
