And the Winner Is…

October 1, 2009

Several weeks ago, we told you about the AY Magazine’s Recipe Contest.  And we hope that some of you submitted your recipes to the competition!  Well, next week is the time when all is revealed.

A week from today, AY will hold the Celebrity Chef Cookoff at Pulaski Technical College.  The top recipes (is yours one of them?) will be prepared by some of Arkansas’ best chefs.

The chefs that will be cooking include Lee Richardson from the Capital Hotel, Donnie Ferneau from Ferneau’s, Timothy Morton from 1620, David Bennett from Vieux Carre, Rob Best from Best Impressions, and Andre Poirot from the Peabody Little Rock.  That’s a lot of great chefs in one room!

So what’s going to happen?  These chefs will each prepare one of the recipes from the finalists in the recipe contest.  Do you remember the categories?  They were the staples:  appetizer, main course, and dessert.  But the fun part was that each recipe had to include an ingredient from the sponsors of the contest – basically beef, dairy, alcohol, and a little Cavender’s.

We can’t wait to see what our fellow Arkansans came up with using these ingredients.  And to watch some of our favorite chefs whip up the recipes will be a real treat.  And if we’re lucky, we’ll get to taste some of the creations.

The judges who decide the winners are pretty amazing people, too.  There’s Faith Anaya from KidsCook!, Mark Abernathy from Loca Luna, Todd Gold from Purple Cow, Peter Brave from Brave New Restaurant, and Mary Twedt from “Arkansas Cooks.”  Yes, AY has certainly lined up a star-studded cast to create and judge our recipes.  So whoever wins – they should feel very special knowing that all these fantastic foodies picked their recipe!

Do you want to come watch the fun, too?  Well, you can!  Seating is limited, so you’ll need to RSVP, but this evening sounds like it is shaping up to be a great one.  The cost of admission is only $50 – and the proceeds go to the Pulaski Technical College Foundation for the Arkansas Culinary School in honor of the late Richard Allin.  Allin was a wonderful and beloved columnist who died in 2007.  We think this is a great way to honor him and help the Arkansas Culinary School at the same time.

So get ready for some fun and tasty times next Thursday!  Join us as we watch recipes turn into reality.  What fun.
