Stop at the Station

March 26, 2009

We really are enjoying finding places that have locally grown foods for sale.  This week, we checked out The Station Grocery & Deli, on the advice of several readers.  And we were so glad we did!

The Station is located in that old wallpaper store on the corner of Kavanaugh and Markam.  As walked in, we were greeted with live music and children dancing, while their parents enjoyed a cup of coffee.  Now this was cool.  We walked to the back of the store and found the deli counter.  And we were hungry.

They carry the daily soup from Boulevard Bread Company, and have other daily specials.  On the menu, wonderful sandwiches made with Boulevard Bread.  Selections range from roast beef and turkey to veggie and peanut butter with local honey and banana.  We chose a veggie sandwich.  It was full of locally grown ingredients and just felt nourishing.  It was as if Mom had made our lunch, and that made us smile.

While we were waiting on lunch, we wandered through the store.  It’s small, but there’s a little bit of everything.  One aisle is filled with local produce.  From shitake mushrooms, to micro greens, they have them.  They also have local eggs and cheese.  And all of their coffee (which you can purchase by the pound or by the cup) is locally roasted in Rose Bud.

We love the fact that the neighborhood stops by and that children dance to live music.  It just made our day better.  Stop by and check it out for yourself.  We can’t wait for our next visit.
